On Monday i went to Bow Street Magistrates Court to protest against the extradition of Babur Ahmad. I have to admit that i was really shocked by the poor turnout: there were way more sisters than brothers there. In total i think there were about 120 people who turned up.
Thats a shame considering the impact that this case could have for the British. Our government has signed a treaty with the States that allows a British citizen to be extradited to the US without the US having to furnish us with the proof?! Isn't the British government proud of its own sovereignty? Aren't the British proud of their own sovereignty? Obviously not.
Anyhow, make du'a for Babur Ahmad. The judge may be making a ruling on his case as i write.

Voting and the Muslim community
What really makes me wonder is these brothers and sisters in the Muslim community who are pro-vote: i'm not talking about the people who will vote because they believe its the lesser of two evils, but those who have been on the pro-vote/democracy-is-good bandwagon for the best part of a decade now.
You'd think that now that Muslims in the UK are beginning to stir and take voting a bit more seriously, these guys would show some unity? But what do we have? We had the MCB tipping their hat to Labour yesterday, another brother standing for the Liberal Democrats, and (probably) most of the Muslims thinking of voting for the Respect party.
Whats the point of all those years of hard work in getting Muslims to become politically active and then at the end of it the leadership is all over the place?
btw. check this out

Du'a request
The [American] government is expected to rest its case against Dr. Al-Timimi today (Wednesday April 13th, 2005). Following that it is common legal practice for the defense to move for dismissal of the charges arguing that the government has failed to meet its burden.
The judge can grant the motion in whole or part, or deny the motion. The defense then will present its case and closing arguments are thereafter held. There is a possibility that the jury will receive the case for deliberation on Thursday. This means a verdict could be returned against Dr. Al-Timimi Thursday or Friday.
What is needed at this moment is (1.) as much sincere prayer as possible, and (2.) that you contact as many Muslims you know – especially those known for their piety – to likewise pray for Ali.
We are fast approaching the end of this ordeal which has lasted for more than two years. On behalf of Dr. Al-Timimi and his family, we praise God for all His blessings during our times of ease and adversity and we thank each and everyone of you for standing behind your brother. May God grant you all the best in this world and the next.

Palestinian Olive Oil
I was sorting through some old post today and found a letter from zaytoun.org
They are a UK-based organisation that provides financial assistance to some Palestinians by buying olive directly from them. It looks like an interesting project. For more info, please visit their site, and if you like olive oil buy some for yourselves.
